Worksheet 5

(Suitable for use after Unit 5 of New English Parade Level 5)

Circle the word that does not make sense.

Write a word from the Word Bank that does make sense.
1. We packed the car for our camping trip.

We had sleeping bags, torches, air
mattresses, and the pier.

2. It was a beautiful, snowy day when we

set off. We knew that soon we’d
be swimming in the lake.

3. We reached the dining room and

found the perfect spot for our tent.
Everyone helped to set it up.

4. We were hungry, so we built a

fire right away to float supper.
It was still sunny and warm.

5. After supper, we blew up our torches

so we’d have soft beds for the night.
It was almost dark.

6. The wind was blowing. A lifeguard

was coming! We ran inside the tent.
We knew it was going to rain.

7. We were looking out of the tent

when the rain started. We were safe
and dry because we were ready for
any kind of tent—even a big storm.

8. Dad started to whistle. Mum began to

sing. We joined in. It could have been
scary, but it wasn’t. It was the worst
camping trip we’d ever had.

Distribute the worksheets and explain that pupils are going to read about a camping trip. In each paragraph there is
