My favourite author
My favourite author is Roald Dahl. He is very

special to me not only because I like his stories. I

think that I have learnt a lot of English from his

books. ‘James and the Giant Peach’ was the first

book I read in English. It was when I was in England

with my mother. I had a bit of an accident and I

had to spend two weeks in hospital. I was bored, so

my cousin lent me some of Dahl’s books and they

were not very difficult for me.

Roald Dahl was born in Wales, but his parents came

from Norway. It was very important for his father

that Roald receive a good education. He went to

a few different schools, but he did not like them

because the discipline was very strict. He wrote

a lot about schools in his books and some of the

teachers in his books are not very nice. I have read

‘Matilda’ and I would not like to go to her school.

Roald Dahl had five children. I think this is why

many of his books are for children. Sadly, his

daughter Olivia died when she was seven. Dahl

wrote his book ‘BFG’ for her. ‘BFG’ means Big

Friendly Giant and it is my favourite book. When

Dahl worked in a chocolate factory, his dream was

to invent a new kind of chocolate. At that time he

wrote ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

I think that Roald Dahl will always be on my list

of favourite writers. I like the stories. I think they

are funny. Some people call it black humour, but it

makes me laugh. I also like the pictures by Quentin

Blake. They are a bit scary, but funny. My mum

likes reading stories for adults by Dahl. I will have

to try and read them one day. My mum says they

are a bit scary, too.

Paulina started reading books in English because

there were a lot of books in the hospital.

her mother told her to do it.

she had nothing to do.

The students at Matilda’s school

had strict discipline.

got a good education.

had nice teachers.

‘BFG’ is about

new kinds of sweets.

a nice and very big creature.

Paulina’s mum

doesn’t like scary stories.

also reads books by Dahl.
