Complaint 
Increased effort is required to turn the steering wheel when cornering or parking. 
 
Note: 
E46 all-wheel-drive variants are NOT affected by the problem.

Cause 
Cause: 
Impurities in the power steering fluid lead to increased wear of the LF20 power steering pump. This may
result in damage to the drive shaft.

Measure 
Service measure: 
In the event of a customer complaint, replace the LF20 power steering pump with an LF30 power steeri
pump. 
 
Note: 
This service measure must only be carried out if the power steering intermittently/permanently fails as a
result of the cause described. If the power steering pump is damaged on the outside (e.g. leaks), the LF
pump must be fitted again. 
 
The following list shows which LF30 pump must replace the LF20 pump. 
 
Right-hand-drive vehicles: 
Old power steering pump (LF20): BMW part no. 32 41 6 750 423 
New power steering pump (LF30): BMW part no. 32 41 1 094 965 
It is also necessary to proceed with the replacement of the new flexible hose (BMW part no: 32 41 1 09
737) and the new return line (BMW part no: 32 41 1 094 953). 
 
Old power steering pump (LF20): BMW part no. 32 41 6 760 036 
New power steering pump (LF30): BMW part no. 32 41 1 094 965
