The Rules

Objective

:

With the help of the cards, the students ask questions and talk about what they
have got / have not got (British English) or what they have / don’t have
(American English). The winner is the player who has no longer any questions to
ask. This game allows the students to use the verb HAVE (GOT) with some
vocabulary related to school things / objects / stationery.

How to play the Game:

1.  Make groups of 4-5 players and give a set of cards for each group.
2. One of the players is the dealer. He/she gives an equal number of ‘question’
and ‘answer’ cards to each player.
3. Before starting the game, all the players have to check whether they already
have pairs (= ‘question card’ + ‘answer card’). If it is the case, they put the pairs
in the centre of the table.
4. The dealer starts the game by choosing a player and asking him/her a
question (ex: ‘Have you got a ruler?’ in British English, or ‘Do you have a ruler?’
in American English
).

•  If the player does not have the ‘answer’ card, he/she answers ‘No, I haven’t

/ don’t.’ (short answer) or ‘No, I haven’t got / don’t have a ruler.’ (long
answer). Then, it is the player sitting on the dealer’s left who chooses
someone and asks him/her a question.

•  If the player does have the ‘answer’ card, he/she answers ‘Yes, I have / do.’

(short answer) or ‘Yes, I have (got) a ruler.’ (long answer) Then, the
‘question’ card and the ‘answer’ card are both put down in the centre of the
table, and the dealer can continue asking questions.

5.

The game continues until one of the players has no longer any questions to

ask.
