A word from the author

The private hospital sector is limited in each of the six countries analysed in this report: Bulgaria,
the  Czech  Republic,  Hungary,  Poland,  Romania,  and  Slovakia.  This  is  mostly  due  to  the  limited
affluence of societies, in which the majority of people cannot afford to pay for highly specialised
inpatient procedures out-of-pocket. On the other hand, however, the long queues and at times
substandard  quality  of  public  health  care  motivate  an  increasing  number  of  wealthy  patients
to choose private hospitals. In addition, public payers often sign contracts with such facilities, a
situation that is possible and becoming more common in all of the analysed countries. This makes
the non-public hospital sector an interesting one, and we believe that it will become even more
significant in Central Europe in the coming years, together with the improving economic situation

and healthcare standards.
Monika Stefańczyk, Head pharmaceutical market Analyst

Brief synopsis of the report:

The  report  analyses  conditions  in  the  non-public  hospital  market  in  CE  countries,  including  hospitals  that  have
completed  the  transformation  from  public  entities  to  privately  owned  companies.  It  compares  the  investment
outlooks for this sector in each of the six CE countries analysed, and explores the most significant barriers and growth
opportunities, including planned legislative and regulatory changes. This publication also presents detailed profiles
of the largest private hospitals in the Central European region.
