John 1:18 "No man has seen God at any time" (NWT)
Concerning the Deity of Jesus Christ
"Hence, the phrase 'Son of God' refers to Jesus as a separate created being, not as part of a Trinity. As the Son
of God, he could not be God himself, for John 1:18 says: 'No one has ever seen God.' " ("Should You Believe
in the Trinity?" 1989 p. 16)
The Jehovah's Witnesses argue that Jesus cannot be God, because no-one has seen God at any time, yet
people saw Jesus Christ. Actually this verse is a great testimony to the deity of Jesus Christ! John 1:18 does
say that no man has seen God, but the Old Testament says that men saw God. Jacob says in Genesis 32:30
"I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been preserved." Ask the Jehovah's Witness "Who did Jacob
see? God in John 1:18 refers to the Father, but the God who the Old Testament saints saw was Jesus Christ.
This is because, as the verse says, "He (Jesus) has declared Him. (the Father)" Jesus, not the Father,
appeared to the saints of old as Jehovah God!
