Mobile phones are widely used in Indonesia.  As in most of the world (except
perhaps the US and Canada!), Indonesia uses a mobile network that recognizes
SIM cards.  A SIM card allows you to change service providers simply by swapping
in a new card.

International travelers with the proper mobile phone can simply purchase a
prepaid SIM card and put it in his or her phone in order to save money and prevent
international roaming fees.

Prepaid phone cards (kartu telepon) are widely available all over Indonesia.
