Giving directions
Przydatne słownictwo:
Go up/down this street – idź w górę/w dół tej ulicy
Go along this street – idź wzdłuż tej ulicy
Take first turning on the right/left – skręć w pierwszą ulicę w prawo/lewo
Go past – miń (np. Go past the shop – Miń sklep)
Go straight on until you get to – idź prosto dopóki nie dotrzesz do….
Turn left/right into…. – skręć w prawo/lewo w…
Go over the traffic lights – przejdź przez światła
It is on the left/right – to jest po prawej/lewej
Opposite – na przeciwko
Between – pomiędzy
Over – przez (Go over the bridge – Idź przez most)
Above – nad, ponad
Through – przez (Go through the park – Idź przez park)
Round – okrągły, okrąż (Round the building – Okrąż budynek)
Can you tell me the way to….? – Czy możesz mi powiedzieć, jak dojść do….?
Gdy jesteśmy w nowym mieście, gdy czegoś szukamy, często pytamy o drogę
przechodzących ludzi. Poniżej przedstawiony jest przykładowy dialog.
A: Excuse me. Is there a bank near here?
B: Yes, the nearest bank is in the Zamkowa Street.
A: Can you tell me how to get there?
B: Yes, please go down this street for about 300 meters, when you pass a department store
take the first turning on the left and go along until you get to a post office. The bank is
between the post office and a church.
A: Thank you very much.
Translation:
A: Przepraszam. Czy jest tu bank w pobliżu?
B: Tak, najbliższy bank jest na ulicy Zamkowej.
A: Czy może mi Pan powiedzieć, jak tam dojść?
B: Tak, proszę iść w dół tej ulicy przez jakieś 300 metrów, kiedy minie Pani dom towarowy,
proszę skręcić w pierwszą ulicę w lewo i iść wzdłuż niej aż do poczty. Bank jest pomiędzy
pocztą a kościołem.
A: Bardzo dziękuje.

Translation:
A: Chciałabym kupić bilet z Londynu do Paryża.
B: W jedną czy dwie strony?
A: W jedną.
B: Czy może mi Pani pokazać swój paszport, proszę?
A: Tak, proszę.
B: Ma Pani jakiś bagaż poza tym?
A: Tak, mam tę walizkę, to mój podręczny bagaż.
B: Chce Pani dla palących czy niepalących?
A: Dla palących, czy mogę mieć miejsce przy przejściu?

Losing your luggage
A: Excuse me. Can you help me?
B: Yes, what’s the problem?
A: One of my suitcases hasn’t arrived*. Can you check this?
B: Can I see your passport and ticket, please?
A: Yes, here you are.
B: Now you have to tell me what was in this suitcase.
A: Clothes and documents.
B: Fill this form and go to your hotel. We will call you.
A: OK, thank you.
* w zdaniu użyto czasu Present Perfect, który poznacie wkrótce.
Translation:
A: Przepraszam. Czy może mi Pani pomóc?
B: Tak, w czym tkwi problem?
A: Jedna z moich walizek nie dojechała. Czy może Pani to sprawdzić?
B: Czy mogę zobaczyć Pani paszport i bilet?
A: Tak, proszę.
B: Teraz proszę mi powiedzieć, co było w tej walizce?
A: Ubrania i dokumenty.
B: Proszę wypełnić ten formularz i jechać do swojego hotelu. Zadzwonimy do Pani.
