Interview Questions

Interview work best when you ask the interviewee to respond with an explanation that can stand aloe
i.e. without the interviewer’s question.  That way they appear to be telling the story in their own
words and each answer will make sense when isolated.

e.g. Question:
How long have you been a professional golfer
Answer: 7 years

Now that will never give you any room to edit with or paint images or b-roll over the top.  A better
question would be:

In your own words (as my question will not be used) can you tell me how you first discovered a talent
for golf and how that evolved into you becoming a professional?  Tell me about that journey from the
beginning

Answer: I first became interested in golf after watching a competition when I was 8 years old....etc

This gives you much more scope to have an elaborate story from which to edit from.

Types of questions

How...?

What ...?

Why...?

Who...?

Where... ?

Questions work well

1. Tell me in your own words how this effected you...?
2. What was it about that situation that made such a difference to you...?
3. Can you explain Why you made that decision...?
4. Who was ultimately responsible for X and why was that important ( a simple who question

could easily end in a one word answer and you want to try and avoid that instead you want open
ended questions that will enable a story to be told.)

5. Can you remember  where this incident took place, how were you feeling at the time you

made that decision...?
