It's tempting to describe Et Ret as an experimental guitarist/violinist, however, rather 
than  embracing  cacophony  and  cold  aesthetics,  Et  Ret's  compositions  achieve 
warmth and resonance through rhythmic and melodic repetition.  He compliments 
his  confident,  but  restrained,  guitar  melodies  with  deeply  impassioned  swirls  of 
violins and cellos.   Although his violin stumbles down a crooked path, it still manages 
to pierce the listener emotionally, calling to mind the work of Dirty Three violinist 
Warren Ellis.  As a final touch, the compositions are accented with sparse percussion 
and subtle analog electronics.     

 

 
The album opens with a simple pulsing organ repeating a series of cords. 

 Seconds 

later  a  wall  of  violins  begins  to  build,  swirling  around  with  a  perfect  eastern 
dissonance.   

  This  sets  the  stage  for  the  next  track,  a  slowly  developing  track, 

ultimately  leading  to  a  chaotic  soundscape  of  loops  cellos  and  guitars  masterfully 
sewn together.  "Untitled 5" marks the album's clear transition. 

 After this point the 

album  takes  an  emotional  turn,  becoming  more  placid,  the  compositions  more 
sweetly melodic. 
 
The  final  track  is  possibly  the  finest  example  of  Et  Ret's  talents. 

  Using  layers  and 

layers  of  violins  and  cellos  Et  Ret  creates  a  swooning  and  seductive  tension.   This 
final track captures the overall tone of the record; it feels like morning, like things 
are changing and scary, and it's good.  R.I.Y.L. Dirty Three, Popul Vuh, Godspeed You 
Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, Burning Star Core.

-  Et  Ret  will  be  touring  this  Spring  with 
Western Vinyl artists Madagascar.

-  Et  ret  will  be  playing  at  the Western Vinyl 
South  By  Southwest  showcase  in  March  of 
2006 to promote Gasworks.
