Liz: Hello. Today I’m interviewing British teenagers about their hobbies and interests.
First, I’m going to talk to 15 year old Tessa Brown. Hello, Tessa.
Tessa: Hi.
Liz: Tell me … What do you do in your spare time?
Tessa: Well, I go swimming with my friends after school. We sometimes play basketball. I
like badminton. I also have dancing lessons on Saturday mornings. All my sports
activities take a lot of time and I sometimes think that I need some time to relax.
Liz: What do you do in your free time?
Tessa: I sometimes watch reality shows and sports programmes. I also meet friends and we
sometimes go to the youth club. But going to the cinema is what I most like doing to
relax. I don’t enjoy films on TV, I prefer watching films at the cinema. It’s great fun to
watch my favourite actors play.
Liz: So you are interested in acting?
Tessa: Yes. Although I do a lot of sport I’m not thinking of a sports career or international
competitions. I’d like to study acting and if you want to do this you have to be talented
and fit as well.
Liz: That’s great. Thank you for your time.

Hi, my name’s Paula and I’d like to tell you about my best friend. I’m very worried because
there is something strange going on with her. We’ve been friends for four years now. We first
met during the holidays after primary school and I think we know each other very well but
recently Gina, that’s her name, has started to behave in a strange way. She has changed her
hair style and she looks awful with the sides of her head shaved. I’ve tried to talk to her but
she says nothing has happened. I don’t believe her because she is also often absent from
school, which didn’t happen before and her grades are really bad now. What do you think I
should do to help her? Should I talk to her parents about it and find out what’s going on?

When I talk to my friends from Europe about Christmas they always say I must be unhappy
because of the lack of snow and Christmas atmosphere. But I like my Christmas. I live in
Australia and we spend Christmas on the beach. We’ve got a cottage on the coast and my
family and I go there every year in December. It’s great fun.
Speaker Two
What I like about Christmas is the time when we prepare for it. I most enjoy shopping for
presents. I usually do it with my mum and dad. I write a list of our family members and we
usually spend a few hours planning presents for them. I remember that once we bought a pair
of woolen gloves for my aunt who lives in Australia. Luckily she’s got a sense of humour.

Buying Christmas gifts is something I hate. I never know what to buy and the crowds in shops
irritate me. I prefer helping mum with the cooking. In fact I like it very much. Apart from
