P  Was the girl OK?
J  Yes. I don’t think she saw Chris.

She was running across the road
to her friends and didn’t look. It’s
amazing that she wasn’t hurt.

P  How is Chris?
J  He went to the hospital for an

X-ray, but he’s at home now.
I went round to his house
yesterday evening.

P  Poor Chris!

M
What’s your favourite TV

programme, Leo?

L  Hmm, let me think. I like science

fiction because there’s usually a
complicated story. The Doctor
Who series is great, and there’s
a new programme on Sunday
evenings, but I can’t remember
what it’s called.

M  Oh yes. I saw that last week. And

do you like action films?

L  I love action films! They’re really

exciting! But a lot of the good
ones are on TV late at night, so
I can’t watch them. What about
you? What sort of films do you
like, Molly?

M  I like comedies. Anything that’s

funny and makes me laugh. Oh,
and animated films like Toy Story.

L  I saw Toy Story 1 when I was

younger. It was good.

M  You should see Toy Story 2 and 3, as

well! I like animated films because
the stories are fast-moving.

R  Well, it’s my party tomorrow, so

I’d like to go to the hairdresser’s
and have my hair cut. I’d like to
visit that new shoe shop, too.

E  What are you looking for, some

new trainers?

R  No, I want some nice shoes to

wear at my party. Then, we’re
going to find the best clothes

E  You’ll need to go to the bank first!
R  Well, my money is in the post

last week?

B  Yes, I was. I stayed with my

time.

R  Lucky you! What did you do?
B  We went to lots of different places.

My cousins live near the sea, and
it’s really beautiful. On the first day,
we took a ferry over to an island.
It was a really hot day, so we went
for a swim in the sea.

R  Cool!
B  Then we played on the beach.

We saw some fantastic boats.
I wanted to go on one of them,
but there wasn’t time.

R  That’s a pity.
B  Yes, but the next day, we travelled

to an interesting little village. It
wasn’t near the sea; it was on a hill.
We went to the top of the hill on
foot, and there was a great view.

R  Wow, it sounds like you had a

A  Go on, then! Tell me about it!

OK. It was a stormy night, and a
young boy was sleeping in his
bedroom. But the wind was very
        strong. It blew open his
bedroom window. A cup on the
windowsill fell on the floor, and
the boy woke up. When he sat up

A  Yes, go on.
M  Well, the room was dark, so he

didn’t know exactly what he saw
… but it looked like a woman.
She was sitting at the end of his
bed.

A  What did the boy do?
M  He was scared, so he stayed very

still and quiet. The woman looked
at him for about half a minute;
then she stood up, walked over to
the window, closed it and walked
out of the room.

A  Wow! What happened next?
M  Nothing. But the next morning,

when the boy woke up, he found
his cup on the floor, and his
bedroom window was closed. …

J
Hi, Pete. Have you heard about

Chris?

P  No, what happened, Jane?
J  He fell off his bike, and he’s

broken his leg.

P  Really? How did it happen?
J  I’m not sure, but I think he was

cycling home from school. A little
girl ran into the road, and Chris
fell off when he stopped his bike
very quickly.

P  Was the girl OK?

 02

J  Yes. I don’t think she saw Chris.

She was running across the road
to her friends and didn’t look. It’s
amazing that she wasn’t hurt.

P  How is Chris?
J  He went to the hospital for an

X-ray, but he’s at home now.
I went round to his house
yesterday evening.

P  Poor Chris!

E  Thanks, Rosie. That sounds fun! I

love shopping! What do you want
to do? Where do you want to go?

R  Well, it’s my party tomorrow, so

I’d like to go to the hairdresser’s
and have my hair cut. I’d like to
visit that new shoe shop, too.

E  What are you looking for, some

new trainers?

R  No, I want some nice shoes to

wear at my party. Then, we’re
going to find the best clothes
shop in town.

E  You’ll need to go to the bank first!
R  Well, my money is in the post

office, so let’s go there now.

E  The post office is near Green’s, the

department store. You can buy
everything in one place.

R  Do they sell newspapers? Dad

asked me to buy one. And I must
remember to go to the chemist’s
to buy Mum’s medicine. And …

M
What’s your favourite TV

programme, Leo?

L  Hmm, let me think. I like science

fiction because there’s usually a
complicated story. The Doctor
Who series is great, and there’s
a new programme on Sunday
evenings, but I can’t remember
what it’s called.

M  Oh yes. I saw that last week. And

do you like action films?

L  I love action films! They’re really

exciting! But a lot of the good
ones are on TV late at night, so
I can’t watch them. What about
you? What sort of films do you
like, Molly?

M  I like comedies. Anything that’s

funny and makes me laugh. Oh,
and animated films like Toy Story.

L  I saw Toy Story 1 when I was

younger. It was good.

M  You should see Toy Story 2 and 3, as

well! I like animated films because
the stories are fast-moving.

orange juice. Hmm … we’ve got
five pizzas, so we don’t need any
more. We’ve got some bread, but
we haven’t got any ham. Let’s get

R  Hi, Ben! How are you? You weren’t

at Claire’s party. Were you away
last week?

B  Yes, I was. I stayed with my

cousins, and I had an amazing
time.

R  Lucky you! What did you do?
B  We went to lots of different

places. My cousins live near the
sea, and it’s really beautiful. On
the first day, we took a ferry over
to an island. It was a really hot
day, so we went for a swim in the
sea.

R  Cool!
B  Then we played on the beach.

We saw some fantastic boats. I
wanted to go on one of them, but
there wasn’t time.

R  That’s a pity.
B  Yes, but the next day, we travelled

to an interesting little village. It
wasn’t near the sea; it was on a
hill. We went to the top of the hill
on foot, and there was a great
view.

R  Wow, it sounds like you had a

A = Amy, M = Max
A
Do you believe in ghosts, Max?
M  No, but I love reading ghost

stories. What about you, Amy?

A  Mmm. Yes, I quite like ghost

stories, but not when I’m alone
at home!

M  Well, I was reading a scary story

last night.

A  Go on then! Tell me about it!

M   OK. It was a stormy night, and a
young boy was sleeping in his
bedroom. But the wind was very
strong. It blew open his bedroom
window. A cup on the windowsill
fell on the floor, and the boy woke
up. When he sat up in bed, he saw
       …

A  Yes, go on.
M  Well, the room was dark, so he

didn’t know exactly what he saw
… but it looked like a woman. She
was sitting at the end of his bed.

A  What did the boy do?
M  He was scared, so he stayed very

still and quiet. The woman looked
at him for about half a minute;
then she stood up, walked over to
the window, closed it and walked
out of the room.

A  Wow! What happened next?
M  Nothing. But the next morning

when the boy woke up, he found
his cup on the floor, and his
bedroom window was closed. …
But that was only the first part of
the story. I’m looking forward to
finding out what happens next!
