How many words beginning with 'B' are not musical instruments?

Look through the definitions of the words in the list. How many stringed instruments can you find?

Go back to the Dictionary Search. Type instrument, press the AND button, type string, tick the Definition
box and click Find. Compare the list you made to this list.

Work in your teams and take five minutes to write lists of things in the following categories. 
Then compare your list with the CD-ROM’s list by using the Dictionary search.

Access the Dictionary search by clicking 
on the Search button then selecting Dictionary 

search from the menu. Type in ‘yellow fruit’ and press 
the Find button. 

This list will appear, and students can click on any 
of the words in the list to see that entry.

answer: prickly pear

You and your students may be surprised to see that 
something that is not a yellow fruit is on the list.  
This is because the words ‘yellow’ and ‘fruit’ 
appear in the definition for prickly pear even though 
it is not a yellow fruit. 

Click on the words in the list to see their entries. Read the definitions to help answer 
the questions.
