V360 - GSM - Hinge Flex Open Via.

PROBLEM
Service is aware of an issue, identified in the GSM V360 (Malta) analysis. Units returned with customer complaints such as
On” or “No Display” were root caused to open vias on the Hinge Flex. The flex is manufactured by MFS. Air bubbles became trapped
inside the via holes during the copper plating process in manufacturing.
SOLUTION
Supplier MFS implemented process improvements during manufacturing starting from date code
1906 (wk19/2006).
FIELD SERVICE ACTION
Customer Returns:
Perform the following service procedure on any GSM V360 returns with a Month of Manufacturer of June 2006 or earlier with customer
complaints of: “No Turn On” or “No Display”:
1) Verify the customer complaint;
2) Substitute the unit’s flip assembly with a known good flip;
a) If the problem is corrected by changing the flip assembly, then replace the flex P/N 0171044A01
with date code 1906 (wk19/2006) or later. Refer to the photo below to aid in identifying the flex
date code location:
b) If the problem is not corrected by above described process in step 2a, then proceed with normal
troubleshooting techniques.
3) Reassemble and retest for proper unit operation.
Service Inventory:
Purge Hinge Flex Assembly P/N 0171044A01 pre-1906 (wk19/2006) date code and replace with
1906 (wk19/2006) or later.
