DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE (TECHNIQUE / SKILL)

SHIELDING -- 1 V1 (+1)

Players practice passing to a receiver. Receiver practices receiving with back to goal

ORGANISATION

Players play in a 15 x 12 metre grid

With two 5 metre end zones

1.Red player in end zone plays into central red player

2.Central Yellow marks central red - passive at first - Active later

3.Zone Players change with Central players after 45-60 secs

4.Receiver tries to keep possession in front for a few seconds, and then play back to zone player

5. After 3 practices - now yellows

6. Receiver can move to wide areas

KEY OBSERVATION

  1. Starting Position - Keeping Defender Away - move away from ball

  1. Accurate first pass - to feet - with suitable pace / weight

  1. Control & Shield Ball - using either inside or outside of feet

  1. Lock Ball in - use standing leg, crouched shape, to keep the ball from def.

  1. Body Shape Vital - Progress to receiving Side On - use outside of foot

  1. Hold your position/ground - don't let defender push you back to zone, use body

NOTES

Receiver as far away as possible in central positions

Zone Passer must deliver ball to receiver with real pace - suited to the distance

As shielding technique improves - receiver can receive in wider areas

Ensure you rotate teams and zone & central players
