TOPIC / THEME: Attacking Skills

Receiving, Turning & Shooting in a Functional practice.

DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE:

A functional practice. A simple demonstration of organization, management and control using Q&A technique to improve players understanding of the key factors relating to the topics in a repetitive rehearsal which reflects how this would happen in the real game situation. This session should clearly identify the need for demonstration and rehearsal in clearly and accurately recreated situations.

ORGANISATION 3.Developing shooting and rebounding as a unit

40 x 30

On an area roughly 40x30; depending on age, ability and previous experience of the players, the teams line up to receive the ball from the keeper. They have one touch to control then pass to the target player who lays it off for them to shoot, preferably on one touch. Two players have now been added, there are two defenders and two set up players now. When the ball rolls it becomes 3v2

Combination play is now possible and receiving turning and dribbling will all be utilized.

KEY OBSERVATION FACTORS:

  1. Attitude of both setter partner and shooter.

  2. Setter's movement after lay off and triggers for partner (Direction and timing of runs).Shooters movement.

  3. When to shoot, turn, dribble, pass.( decisions now key)

  4. Combinations to score ( overlaps, wall passes, takes etc)

  5. Taking opportunities to finish.

NOTES:

The three players work as a unit against two defenders. Progress by allowing the defenders to score at the other end if they win the ball. How does this now affect the decision making?
