A: Come on, Julia. Blow out the candles. Well done.

B: She's so big. I can't believe she's started school already.

A: I know. Time goes so quickly.

B: Still no brother or sister?

A: No, and I don't think she minds at all. She's used to being an only child.

B: Doesn't she get lonely? A little brother or sister would be nice for her.

A: No. She's got lots of friends at school and here in the street. Most of the children here live
near us. Two of them are from next door.

B: That's great. I love my house in the country but sometimes I miss having neighbours.

This is my favourite day of the year. In the morning, my dad, my sister and I decorate the tree. My mum doesn't help because she spends all day in the kitchen. After lunch, dad drives to my grandparents' house - his parents - and brings them to our house where they stay until the 28th of December. My mum's parents never come. They've got a holiday home in the Canary Islands and always spend the winter there. We had Christmas there once. The weather was amazing but it didn't feel right somehow. I love going there in February but not at Christmas. Most people like Christmas Day better than Christmas Eve because they get presents but, for me, the 24th is more special.
