The dissolution of monasteries - it took 4 years. Thomas Cromwell was responsible for that.

Pilgrimage of Grace - series of risings against, but it didn't worked. Members of it were executed.

1536 - Ten Articles:

  1. Only 3 sacraments

  2. Worship of images forbidden

  3. Existence of purgatory (czyściec) denied

  4. No changes in ceremonies

  5. English version of the Bible (anybody could read it

Six Articles - reimposed strict Catholic orthodoxy.

Reformation was ONLY a political thing at first, it was established in order to remove pope authority.

EDWARDIAN REFORMATION

Edward VI:

  1. First Act of Uniformity - first Book of Common Prayer - abolished Latin services

  2. Second Act of Uniformity - the Revised (or Second) Book of Common Prayer - imposed strict Protestant liturgy (it is still used in England)

Both books were largely the work of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer.

PROTESTANT CHURCH:

  1. No mass

  2. Confession abolished

  3. No church decoration

  4. No processions, no holidays

  5. Priest free to get married

MARY'S COUNTER REFORMATION

She was crazy Catholic. Peace with Rome and pope again. She ordered everybody:

  1. Supress heresy (zakazywać)

  2. Remove married clerics

  3. Restora all Catholic ceremonies, processions and holidays

  4. “Bloody Mary”

ELISABETH REFORMATION

Initially seemed to be the wisest - she wanted to find solution. But later it changed. England broke connection with Rome. Act of Supremacy was to be taken by priests, judges, officers, university graduates.

Book of Common Prayer brought back.

Catholics plots against Elisabeth.
