Introduction

I. The History of Necromancy

Necromancy is the act of summoning the dead for

divination as well as summoning spirits for work with
magickal operations. Necromancy comes from the Greek
word “nekros” meaning “corpse” and “manteia” which
means “prophesy”. The first traces of Necromancy come
from the Classic Greek era and so much of the
terminology and history is documented from that culture.
During the Medieval Ages magicians and sorcerers from
Egypt, Greece, Rome and Babylon all practiced the art of
Necromancy. Early Christians also wrote many manuals
on Necromancy before it was condemned by the Catholic
Church as evil and was outlawed in England by the
Witchcraft Act of 1604. Necromancy has nothing to do
with summoning demons or dark entities but instead is
seeking past and future information from the dead. So
Necromancy is about summoning the spirit of the corpse
for information or for magickal operations. Modern day
magicians involved in ceremonial magic, which is derived
from the medieval era magic, are bringing this ancient
practice into their rituals and in turn is causing a
resurgence of Necromancy interest all over again.

II. Finding Your Ancestors

The first step you need to do is to make a list of as
many relatives as possible on your mother’s and father’s
side of the family and go back in time as far as you can.
Find out any information you can about their life like
what they did for work and hobbies and who they were
as a person. Find out where they lived and who they
knew if possible. Lastly, find out their date of birth, date
of death and age at death. Look over your list of your
ancestors and see which ancestors you are drawn to the
most as these will be the ancestors you will start working
with first. Start out with three ancestors to work with to
allow for at least one ancestor to come through for you to
communicate with.

III. Setting up Your Ancestor’s Home

Now that you have decided on three ancestors to work
with it is time to set up the ancestor’s home. Buy some
small ceramic clear bowls with no designs on them and
set one up for each ancestor. Put the three bowls on a
small table or altar where they won’t be disturbed. Write
your ancestor’s name on their bowl as each bowl will be
assigned to one of your ancestors. Do not mix up the
bowls or confuse them and make it really clear which
bowl belongs to which ancestor. Also you can put any
pictures or anything at all that you have of that ancestor
next to that particular ancestor’s bowl. Now, let these
bowls or ancestor’s homes sit quietly for a week.

IV. Activating Your Ancestor’s Home

After sitting quietly for a week it is time to activate

each ancestor’s home. You will light a candle and give a
daily prayer or blessing to your ancestor’s to activate their
home. Light your candles and say three times: “Bless this
spirit (name) and keep him/her safe. Shine down thy face
upon him/her and be gracious unto him/her. Lift up thy
countenance to him/her, and grant him/her peace. Amen.”

V. Inviting your Ancestor’s into your Home

After a week of doing the daily blessings it is now time
to invite your ancestor’s into your home. Call each
ancestor by name at their shrine or home and ask them to
enter into your household and begin to assist you in your
daily life. Do this daily after your daily blessing and be
persistent that they enter into your household. All the
effort will be on your part at the start and then in a few
weeks you should hear from your ancestors in the form of
a thought that is not yours.

VI. Communicating with Your Ancestors

You can tell when your ancestor talks to you because it

will be a thought that just pops into your mind and will
have nothing to do with what you were thinking about at
the time. This is how spirits communicate with people.
The better you know your self and your own thoughts the
better you will know what thoughts come from your
ancestors and which thoughts come from your own mind
and this will allow you to be able to better communicate
with your ancestors. After your daily blessing ritual talk
to your ancestors. Tell them about who you are and where
you live and all about you and your life. Talk to them as if
they were a new best friend and you wanted them to
know all about you. Within two months you should start
getting thoughts and information back from your
ancestors so be patient on this process. When you hear
any communication from your ancestors then you should
talk back to them for a lengthy period of time. After you
speak to your ancestors then pour them a glass of water
as refreshment and set it next to their shrine and tell them
it is for them. Conversations may be boring at the start as
there will be a lot of basic information they will want to
know. If you don’t know the answer to a question then
just tell them you don’t know. Always be honest and
truthful with your ancestors.

VII. Feeding Your Ancestors

Every time you talk to your ancestors you should give
them a cool glass of water at the end of the conversation
as a reward for talking to you. They won’t physically
drink the water but it will be the same as giving them
energy and this is a treat for them. This is a reward for
them for completing a successful task for you. You can
dump out the water at a later time and make sure you
don’t offend them in the process. Ask your ancestors what
they like to eat and you can give them very small portions
of food as a reward on holidays or their birthdays or
special occasions. Some like bread or candy or tobacco.
Do not give them alcohol as this will only slow their
energy down as it is a sedative. Do not put salt on any
food you give them as this will drain their energy. When
you cook for yourself you can put a little salt on your food
to clearly let them know that the food is not for them and
explain to them that this food is for you only.

VIII. Your Relationship with Your Ancestors

Your ancestors will not become any smarter now that
they are dead then when they were alive. Your
relationship with them will also be the same and will not
grow any close or any more distant so don’t have any
expectations of your ancestors other then to talk to them
daily. The best way to learn information about your life or
to get a request of more money, better health, improved
psychic abilities or any other requests is to ask your
ancestor to talk to other spirits to learn from them so that
they can give you your request. Continue to reward them
every time they answer your request correctly and in time
you will have a working relationship with your ancestors
who answer all of your requests!

IX. Banishing your Ancestors

To end the relationship with an ancestor say a prayer
to God to get rid of this spirit out of your home and then
take all objects that belong to your ancestor and throw
them away or burn them based upon what you feel you
need to do. Always follow your feelings and intuition in
dealing with any issues with your ancestors as this will
be the correct way to deal with the situation.
