Resource Manager sends an alert, through the SMTP server.

Step

Action

For individual servers, an administrator can define a
specific set of mail recipients who will receive the
alerts instead of, or as well as, the mail recipients
identified for the entire server farm. An administrator
may do this, for example, to send alerts to a specific
person for a high-priority server.  Use the Resource
Manager Alerts Recipients tab in the server Properties
dialog box.

Installing MetaFrame XP Provider for
Microsoft Windows Management
Instrumentation (WMI)

Microsoft WMI
Overview

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provides system
administrators with a single consistent object-oriented interface to
monitor and control large, complex enterprise systems, applications and
networks.

WMI consists of the following components:

‹

WMI Provider extracts management information from the underlying
system and presents this information to a WMI Consumer.

‹

Common Information Model Object Manager identifies the WMI
provider that can supply information requested by a WMI Consumer
and passes the requested information from the WMI Provider to the
WMI Consumer.

‹

WMI Consumer is a management tool such as the Microsoft
Operation Manager (MOM), an MMC snap-in used to present
information .

For more information on Windows Management Instrumentation , see
the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com.

MetaFrame XP Provider
for WMI Overview

The Citrix MetaFrame XP Provider when installed on a MetaFrame server
extracts information about the server and when appropriate also
provides information on the server farm that the MetaFrame server
resides and presents this information to the WMI consumer for display.

The Citrix MetaFrame XP provider allows the administrator to:

‹

Logoff a session

‹

Disconnect a session

‹

Send messages to users

MetaFrame XP Provider
System Requirements

To install the Citrix MetaFrame XP Provider the following must be
installed:

‹

MetaFrame XP for Windows Version 1.0 or higher

‹

raising false alerts.

Disconnections:
check rate of
disconnections

Rate of session
disconnects is high

Runs a script that
examines the
captured WMI
events to determine
whether the number
of disconnections in
a specific period is
too high.  If this rate
is too high the script
generates a MOM
event.  This script
also clears the WMI
database of
unwanted session
disconnection data.
This rule is disabled
by default to prevent
raising false alerts.

Check for
MetaFrame session
idle too long

A MetaFrame session
has been idle too
long

Runs a script that
retrieves information
from the Citrix
MetaFrame XP
Provider to
determine whether
an ICA session has
been idle too long.  If
a session has been
idle too long, the
script generates a
MOM event.  This
rule is disabled by
default because the
acceptable length of
time for a session to
remain idle varies
between sites.

MetaFrame session
idle too long

A MetaFrame session
has been idle too
long

Triggers an alert in
response to the
MOM event.  The
alert signals
problems with the
session.  All sessions,
including idle
sessions may cause
problems where
server resources are
limited.  This rule is
disabled by default
because the
acceptable length of
time for a session to
remain idle varies
between sites.
