A Filmed in black and white with all the action taking
place in just two rooms, Darwin’s Ark returns science fiction
to the golden age of the 50s, spending less on special
effects and more on plot development and character.
The theme is classic: life on Earth is threatened by aliens
and our only hope is to find an alternative place to live.
The aliens can’t survive in water so the solution is obvious -
mankind must return to the ocean. With limited places
available in the underwater cities there is mass panic as
people try to get a place. richard Bruce, the director, avoids
the typical disaster movie scenes but focuses on the
problem of power and authority, on the decisions made by
people in power, on their dishonesty and corruption and on
the consequences for the rest of the society.
an amazing film thanks to its first-class acting and great
screenplay. In my opinion, samuel powel, who again
plays the role of a world leader, should be nominated for
an oscar for his performance. Five stars!

B Next time your car breaks down on the way home,
think about how it must feel to be one of the crew of Infinity
Wing in this summer’s hit, Situation Critical. steven rivers,
whom we know mostly from romantic comedies, stars
as the commander of a mission to explore Jupiter. after
reaching the planet and collecting some samples, the crew
are preparing to start the return journey but strange lights
appear in the sky above them and there are problems with
starting the spacecraft engine. Then members of his crew
mysteriously start disappearing one by one.
The actors’ performances are not brilliant, but the film is
full of suspense, and anybody who likes science fiction,
fast action and special effects should be satisfied.

C What begins as a small crack in the desert in australia
leads to major concerns that the Earth may be, quite
literally, falling apart. as the crack develops through India,
across the North pole, and heads in the direction of the
usa, world leaders and scientists gather to find a solution.
They are unaware of a spacecraft from the planet darv
orbiting the Earth. The darvars have seen the danger and
realise that if the Earth falls apart the whole universe will be
in danger. To save their own world they decide to help ours.
after the shock of their landing in the pacific ocean has
passed and after the initial fear and mistrust on both sides,
the experts cautiously start acting on the darvars’ advice.
The cast was well chosen and the film was shot in some
amazing places. What I remember most from the film is the

excellent musical score, specially written and performed by
duncan allen. However, the overall effect is really
disappointing so it may be better to wait for this film to
come out on dVd.
