Patient position: 
Supine or seated, stabilize by gripping the 
heel firmly. If possible, abduct the great toe 
from the axial line of the foot. This may be 
difficult for most people.  
 
Examiner pressure: 
Against the medial side of the first metatarsal 
and proximal phalange.
