It is Saturday 

morning, and Mr. 
Nguyen is at the 
bank.  He is 
withdrawing $50 
from his checking account.   

Mr. Nguyen needs cash because 

he is going to the swap meet with his 
wife.  They are going to buy some T-
shirts and pillows.  The sellers at the 
swap meet don’t take credit cards, 
debit cards, or checks.  They only 
take cash. 

After the Nguyens finish 

shopping, they are going to Tony’s 
Steak House.  Mr. Nugyen will use 
his debit card to pay for lunch.  A 
debit card allows customers to pay 
for purchases without using cash.
