Origin  

Anterior fibers: anterior border, superior 
surface, and lateral 1/3 of the clavicle 
Middle fibers: lateral margin and superior 
surface of the acromion 
Posterior fibers: inferior lip of the posterior 
border of spine of scapula 

Insertion  

Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus 

Actions  

Anterior fibers: glenohumeral flexion and 
medial rotation, stabilization during 
glenohumeral abduction 
Middle fibers: glenohumeral abduction 
Posterior fibers: glenohumeral extension 
and lateral rotation, stabiliization during 
glenohumeral abduction 

Nerve  

Axillary nerve
