Lesson Plan - Kindergarten (teaching vocabulary using flashcards)
1. Teacher hangs a map of the zoo on a board and asks children if they like the zoo and if they know any animals that can be found there.
|
2. There are 6 sets of flashcards with big animals printed on them. Each set equals one “sector” of the map. For example (set A, set B, etc. which are marked on the map). We imagine that we walk around the zoo (actually walking around the classroom where there are 6 sets put in different places) using expressions: let's turn right/left.. oh, look! there's a panda! |
3. While `walking around' and discovering new animals, teacher plays a recording of the sound that each animal can do. Children imitate the sounds. There is even food tasting (for example eating banana when talking about a monkey).
|
4. When teacher and children finish discovering animals, pupils sit down and take sheets with animal contours to color them. While children are coloring, the teacher can ask questions: who's got panda? who's got crocodile? etc. |
5. Teacher stands by the big poster and gives names of the animals and children come to the board and point to the animal which name was given by the teacher. |
Materials needed:
Recording of the animal sounds, food: bananas, water, poster of the zoo's map, flashcards Optional: peacock's eye, gum tree flavored candies (for demonstrating what koala eats) |
