The Focus of This Lesson Is the Listening Comprehension Section もんだい 1 of the New

JLPT N3 Prep Course.

The level of linguistic competence required for the Listening Comprehension section of JLPT

N3 is as follows:

⇒ One is able to listen and comprehend coherent conversations in everyday situations,

spoken at near-natural speed, and is generally able to follow the content as well as grasp the

relationships among the people involved.

聴解（ちょうかい）, or the Listening Comprehension section, lasts for forty minutes and

contains twenty-eight questions. There are five types of questions in the Listening section.

In this lesson, you'll learn how to prepare for 問題 1 of the Listening Comprehension section.

What Is 問題 1 Like?

In 問題 1, the examinees are supposed to answer questions related to future actions after

listening to a conversation that contains suggestions or advice.

presented before the conversation, but they are not printed in the booklet.

Instructions for 問題 1

問題１では、まず質問を聞いてください。それから話を聞いて、問題用紙の１から４の中

から、正しい答えを一つえらんでください。

"In Question 1, listen to the question first, and then listen to the

conversation or paragraph to find the answer. Choose the best

answer from 1 to 4."

How to Prepare for 問題１

Questions asking about the location, shape, posture, and/or appearance of an item or a

person often show up in the first question. Make sure to review:

1. Vocabulary for body parts, such as: くび、かた、こし、せなか、ひざ、ひじ、ひげ,

and so on.

2. Expressions related to shapes, such as:

形、まる、三角、四角、とがっている、まっすぐ、まがっている, and so on.

3. Expressions related to position, location, or posture, such as:

縦（たて）、横（よこ）、ななめ、反対、ぎゃく、向かい、さかさま、そろえる、なら

べる、まがる、まげる, and so on.

In 問題 1, you'll listen to a set of instructions, a request, or a suggestion and decide the action
